Adherence Is The Key To Any Successful Diet

Nutrition Advent Calendar – Day 3

There are so many diets out there that claim to be better than all the rest for successful weight loss. However there’s just one thing in common that’s required to lose weight….a calorie deficit.

It’s not the elimination of sugar, dairy, gluten, acid forming foods, red meat or whatever else it is that people claim is needed to detox/cleanse your body. Some even claim that calories do not matter and solely blame insulin’s role in fat storage, but this will only happen if you’re eating more than you burn…

Simply put, you must be burning more calories than what you eat to lose weight.

Together with a negative energy balance, your nutrition plan must suit your lifestyle, training needs and food preferences. You won’t stick to something that does not take these into consideration.

Creating a nutritious and balanced diet that includes regular exercise and the occasional treat is a great foundation for any sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

Take home messages:

Follow a structured nutrition plan that you can stick to which prioritises:
good A realistic and sustainable energy deficit (~500kcal)
good Regular exercise
good Nutrient-dense naturally sourced foods (80-90%)
good Treats (10-20%)
good Preferred meal timings to suit lifestyle & promote adherence
